Syrian media sources reported late Sunday that Israeli forces carried out an incursion into the border area north of “Quneitra,” established a military checkpoint, and fired a number of flares in the vicinity of the area.
The sources indicated that the Israeli forces penetrated approximately 6.5 kilometers deep into Syrian territory, using three tanks and several military vehicles, and reached the road linking the city of “Khan Arnabeh” and the town of “Jaba” located north of “Quneitra.”
The reports clarified that the Israeli forces entered through the village of “Al-Samdaniyah Al-Sharqiya” and set up a checkpoint at an old site known as “Al-Saqri Checkpoint,” at the intersection of the “Khan Arnabeh” – “Jaba” road with the Peace Highway leading towards the capital “Damascus.”
The Israeli forces also launched several flares into the sky of the area, stopped some passers-by, and seized their motorcycles, before further penetrating beyond the location where the checkpoint was set up.
In a related context, the “Syrian Observatory for Human Rights” stated that the total number of Israeli incursions in the “Quneitra” countryside in less than 24 hours had reached eight, involving nine tanks and thirteen military vehicles.
This field development comes amid increasing tension on the Syrian-Israeli border, following a series of Israeli air strikes targeting military sites in the “Damascus” and “Quneitra” countryside in the past few weeks.
