The “Strong Republic” bloc held an extraordinary meeting on Sunday evening, October 26, 2025, chaired by the head of the “Lebanese Forces” party, Dr. Samir Geagea, and at the end of it, the following statement was issued:

“In a time when state institutions are collapsing under the weight of obstruction, and popular will is being kidnapped under flimsy pretexts, the “Strong Republic” bloc finds itself facing a national duty that does not accept compromise: defending the constitution and the right of the Lebanese – at home and abroad – to be equal partners in determining the fate of their homeland.

In light of the repeated practices of Speaker Nabih Berri, the House of Representatives has turned from a legislative authority representing the entire nation and safeguarding the interests of the Lebanese people, into a prisoner in the hands of its speaker, who acts as if it were private property, opening and closing its doors whenever he wants, and deciding what is discussed and what is buried in the drawers. These practices are no longer just a violation of principles, but a clear coup against the constitution, internal regulations, customs, and the principle of separation of powers, and a blatant blow to the will of the Lebanese people who granted the Parliament the authority of legislation and oversight, not the authority of obstruction and discretion.

Among the most dangerous manifestations of this abuse is the Speaker’s refusal to include the urgent repeated bill submitted by nine deputies on May 9, 2025, who represent more than half of the members of Parliament, which aims to repeal Article 112 of the parliamentary election law, in a precedent that clearly expresses the Speaker’s contempt for the will of its members.

This unfair article deprives Lebanese people spread all over the world of their constitutional and natural right to elect their 128 representatives as residents do, and confines them to six symbolic seats that do not express their national weight or their historical contribution to the survival and prosperity of Lebanon, which are seats that the government has explicitly announced the impossibility of distributing to the continents and organizing elections on them.

Preventing the discussion of this proposal and refusing to include it on the agenda of repeated legislative sessions since last May until today, represents a continuation of the approach of exclusion and hegemony, and clearly indicates a premeditated desire to marginalize the voice of the free Lebanese diaspora, which is one of the most important pillars of sovereignty and national dignity.

Based on the foregoing, the “Strong Republic” bloc announces its decisive decision to boycott the legislative session scheduled for next Tuesday, stressing that participation in it means submission to the dominance of Speaker Nabih Berri over the Parliament, and practically means covering up a constitutional and moral crime against hundreds of thousands of Lebanese expatriates who are to be deprived of their right to contribute to changing the reality through the ballot boxes.

The bloc appeals to all free deputies, from any bloc or affiliation, to stand by the constitution and the right, and not to grant legitimacy to a state of paralysis of the Parliament and emptying it of its national role.

The bloc also calls on the Lebanese people – at home and abroad – to keep pace with this fateful battle by all available democratic and peaceful means, because it is not just a passing political battle, but a battle of existence between those who want a state of law and institutions, and those who insist on keeping Lebanon hostage to tutelage, obstruction and corruption.

While renewing its commitment to the principle of full equality between Lebanese in rights and duties, the bloc calls on the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers to assume their national responsibilities, by approving a draft law to repeal Article 112 and referring it to the Parliament by an urgent repeated decree for its approval before the expiry of the legal deadlines in preparation for the upcoming parliamentary elections in May 2026.

The bloc affirms that its battle is not against specific individuals, but against a continuous approach of confiscating institutions and disregarding the constitution, announcing that it will continue its struggle from inside and outside the Parliament to restore the rule of law and accountability, the state that the Lebanese have run out of patience waiting for its establishment.

In conclusion, the “Strong Republic” bloc stresses that the free will of the Lebanese is stronger than all attempts at repression and obstruction, and that the era of confiscating institutions has passed irrevocably, affirming that the Lebanon of tomorrow will be built with right, with freedom, and with the will of all its sons, especially those in the diaspora who will remain its living pulse and the radiation of its light, no matter how long the night of injustice lasts and how intense the power of the oppressors becomes.
