The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon “UNIFIL” announced that a patrol belonging to it was attacked by the Israeli army, near the town of Kfarkela, located in southern Lebanon, this evening, Sunday.
UNIFIL stated in an official statement that at approximately 5:45 PM, an Israeli drone approached the patrol and dropped a bomb near it, followed by an Israeli tank firing towards the peacekeeping forces. The statement confirmed that this attack did not result in any injuries or damage among UNIFIL personnel or their equipment.
The statement indicated that this incident comes after another incident that occurred at the same location, where an Israeli drone flew provocatively over the patrol, prompting the peacekeeping forces to take some defensive measures to move the drone away.
UNIFIL affirmed that these actions are a clear violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, and a violation of Lebanese sovereignty. According to the statement, it also reflects a disregard for the safety and security of the peacekeepers who are performing their duties in southern Lebanon under the mandate granted to them by the Security Council.
