“OpenAI” has officially announced the termination of its smart assistant “ChatGPT” on “WhatsApp”, following a decision by “Meta”, the owner of the application, to end support for external chatbots. The service will be permanently discontinued starting January 15, 2026.

This decision is attributed to a new update in the API policy of “WhatsApp”, which prevents the use of the platform by artificial intelligence models or large language service providers such as “ChatGPT”, under the pretext of reducing pressure on servers. However, some analysts believe that “Meta” is seeking through this step to make its smart assistant “meta ai” the exclusive provider within its applications.

So, what should users do? Users should link their “WhatsApp” accounts to the “ChatGPT” service before the deadline to save their chat history, then switch to using “ChatGPT” through its official applications on “iOS” and “Android” or via the website.
