“Masdar” and “Emirates Water and Electricity Company” announced the start of construction on the world’s largest solar energy project, which combines solar energy production and battery storage technology.

The investment in this project exceeds 22 billion UAE dirhams (equivalent to approximately 5.99 billion US dollars), and its solar energy production capacity will reach 5.2 gigawatts, in addition to an energy storage system with a capacity of 19 gigawatt/hours. This ambitious project will provide a sustainable supply of clean energy around the clock with a capacity of 1 gigawatt, while achieving globally competitive prices.

The project is expected to begin operations in 2027, and will contribute to providing more than 10,000 job opportunities, in addition to reducing carbon emissions by 5.7 million tons annually.

It is worth noting that “Masdar” seeks to increase its clean energy production capacity to reach 100 gigawatts by 2030, which enhances the position of the United Arab Emirates as a leading country in the field of sustainable energy globally.
